• Length: Approx. 2 hours in duration. (This can be adjusted to suit your centres needs)

• Target audience: This incursion is aimed at 4 year old groups and above.

• The "Sewing and Machines" incursion includes:

  • A mat session. This includes both safety around sewing machines as well as an in depth discussion about how sewing machines work. We also discuss how you can use fabric and old fabric items to reuse and recycle.

    • The machines discussion includes:

- A demonstration on how a Sewing Machine works where the children get to see the insides and workings of a real life sewing machine. We also compare the workings of a sewing machine to other machinery that they see in their everyday lives.

- Working displays of lots of different types of machinery and moving parts. The children can touch and interact with these throughout the session to experiment and investigate how they operate.​

  • A chance to use a sewing machine assisted by Susan. Every child uses the sewing machine to decorate a face washer that they can take home with them.​

    • There is an option for there to be pre embroidered names for each child to sew onto their face washer for a small added cost.

• Target Audience: 3 year old groups and above.

• The "Sewing and Machine Safety" incursion includes:

  • A mat session. This is a discussion about how to be safe while sewing, using a sewing machine or even around other machines they may find in their every day lives.

  • The chance to use a sewing machine assisted by Susan. Every child uses the sewing machine to decorate and name a pre made bunting flag that they can take home with them. ​
